What we did well
Complex bunion correction and lesser toe deformity correction
What we could have done differently
Mr Malik and his team provide first class care, for which I am very grateful. Mr Malik is an excellent consultant, he was caring, thoughtful and understanding. I was very worried about having complex surgery to correct a bunion and 3 toe deformities on my right foot. He is a great surgeon and person, I am now well on the way to recovery and would recommend him to anyone.

Bilateral 4th toe fusion for curly toe deformity
Nothing - the operation has been a success and I was very happy with how he explained the whole process to me
I found that I had to adjust the way that I walked because I had pains in both my 4th toes whenever I walked, this caused ankle pains because of the angle of my feet, as my toes were curled inward. Mr Malik explained the possibility of surgery to me (involving putting steel pins in my toes to straighten them) but warned it was not at all a fast recovery. I was in so much pain at the time I was willing to try anything. He was right: it was a long and slow recovery but 5 months on I am in considerably less pain and I’m so happy I went through with it. I’m glad Mr Malik was so thorough at explaining every step of the procedure and recovery to me. If you are considering this procedure don’t let the length of recovery put you off, it is worth it.

Bilateral Gastroc release
Mr Malik recommended this operation as I was experiencing increasing pain when walking due to tightness in my calf muscles. The information he gave me during my examination was extensive and really helped me to understand my condition. The operation was done under local anaesthetic and I was able to walk out of the hospital just three hours later. Mr Malik had given me a comprehensive set of excercises to follow over the next few weeks, he emphasised the importance of these and I followed his instructions to the letter. I was able to drive two days after the operation and was able to return to my normal duties at work after four days. Most importantly though, I am now able to enjoy walking with my husband and dog once again. Many thanks Mr Malik.

Deltoid ligament reconstruction - The operation has been a complete success
I had a hip arthrodesis following an accident in 1988. I have since been a very active person despite one leg being 4cm shorter than the other. About a year ago I tripped and fell down stairs at home and started to have bouts of severe pain in my ankle that became more and more regular.
Once I saw Mr Malik and following an X ray and MRI scan it became apparent I had torn my deltoid ligament with some possible additional damage to my inner ankle bone.
Mr Malik handled my case in a professional, calm, and humane manner.
When the bouts of pain became even more regular Mr Malik moved the operation date forward to accommodate me.
My recovery on full bed rest for a few weeks, followed by partial mobility with a Velcro boot was challenging because of the combination of a rigid fused hip on the same side as my ankle operation.
However, I am now five months beyond the operation and am fully mobile with some residual swelling which is to be expected but no ankle pain.
I have just returned from a three day conference in Holland where I have been on my feet all day with no significant side effects.
I now walk as much as I like so the dog is pleased and have returned to swimming twice a week.
The physiotherapist Mr Malik recommended (Matt Goodliffe in Berkhamsted) was excellent and my advice to anyone undergoing such surgery is to make sure you maintain your designated exercise regime including massage in my case to regain and maintain movement and flexibility.
There are no excuses for not putting in the effort.

Cheilectomy left foot to treat Hallux Rigidus
I had put up with severe pain for 4-5 years in my big toe joint; living on a diet of Ibuprofen and having gone down the whole podiatry route of orthotic inserts etc.
The pain was becoming unbearable and as a healthy outdoor kind of person, I was becoming extremely frustrated with the limitations imposed on my life by this condition. By mid 2016, at the age of 58, it had got to the stage that I found it nearly impossible to walk 400 yards.
Then, through a bit of internet research, I found Mr Malik. How I wish I had known about him 3 or 4 years ago!
From the initial consultation I was extremely impressed by his obvious expertise and knowledge and his ability to explain everything in very starightforward terms. He inspired confidence and I had no hesitation in agreeing with his recommendation to carry out a cheilectomy on my left big toe.
The operation took place at Wycombe General Hospital through the NHS at the beginning of November 2015; I followed his post op guidance strictly (Elevate foot for two weeks- what a pain, but worth it in recovery terms!) Another four weeks with use of foot, light exercise in the gym without pressuring joint and after 6 weeks the difference was incredible. I was back at work, and building up the walking distance. In May 2016 I was on walking holidays in Northumberland and Scotland and in July 2016 did a 19 mile walk in Wales with no problem at all.
My other big toe has the same condition and I saw Mr Malik yesterday (Mid August 2016) and he is going to operate on it in January 2017.
I have absolutely no worries at all about this, having gone through it already - the explanation, care and professionalism he brings to your treatment is brilliant. I just know that I will not have to put up with severe levels of pain anymore.
If you suffer from any foot or ankle condition and are wavering about having a consultation with Mr Malik - just go and see him! Within minutes you know you have made the right choice and you know you are talking to someone who really understands your problem, but more importantly cares about it and can provide a solution for you.The difference to me has been amazing. I cannot thank Mr Malik enough.
