What we did well
Talovanicular Fusion with bone graft
What we could have done differently
Nothing
Your recommendations
I only wish I had been referred to Mr Malik earlier. I have suffered with Rheumatoid Arthritis since 2012, and have suffered pain and swelling in the mid foot region of my left foot on and off since diagnosis. In May this year the pain became constant, and despite 2 courses of steroids ,there was no improvement. It was then I was referred to Mr Malik, who following MRI scan and X-Rays diagnosed talonavicular arthritis with severe bone marrow oedema. He suggested 6 weeks of touch weight bearing to reduce the swelling, but there was no improvement, so surgery was the only option to relieve pain, and make me mobile again. In October Mr Malik performed a talonavicular fusion with bone graft. Mr Malik is a fantastic surgeon, extremely informative, skilled and reassuring. 2 weeks post op when the backslab was removed the wound had healed beautifully with no bruising what so ever. The anaesthetist Dr Size was amazing too. He performed the surgery under a General anaesthetic, with a popliteal nerve block. I can honestly say I had no ill effects from the GA, and I experienced no pain post operatively at all. The nerve block lasted 36 hours. My recovery is going very well. Thank you very much Mr Malik and Dr Size.

Revised a failed job of fusing my big toe
Nothing, you were wonderful!
Mr Ahmad Malik undertook to revise a really bad previous operation on my big toe, done at another hospital. He said it would be a challenge, but we agreed it couldn't be left as it was. All the way through he was frank about success, but also very supportive and caring, including through follow up. I'd thoroughly recommend him to anyone worried about who operates on their feet.

Right 2nd and 3rd TMT joint fusion with autogenous bone graft
Nothing at all
After about 15 years of pain and mis diagnosis I was recommended to see the wonderful Mr Ahmad Malik Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. I was in shock when he not only knew what my condition was but that it could be repaired . I had my operation on 1st April 2016 and by late August I was back walking and going to Zumba classes without pain in my right foot. I will have to have the same operation on my left foot but I have no reservations about Mr Malik doing the same operation again. As all his patients have found he is an amazing surgeon with a delightful and professional manner which puts you at ease immediately. I wish I could tell everyone who suffers with foot problems to go and see him. He is one in a million!

Complex bunion correction and lesser toe deformity correction
Absolutely nothing!
Mr Malik and his team provide first class care, for which I am very grateful. Mr Malik is an excellent consultant, he was caring, thoughtful and understanding. I was very worried about having complex surgery to correct a bunion and 3 toe deformities on my right foot. He is a great surgeon and person, I am now well on the way to recovery and would recommend him to anyone.

Bilateral 4th toe fusion for curly toe deformity
Nothing - the operation has been a success and I was very happy with how he explained the whole process to me
I found that I had to adjust the way that I walked because I had pains in both my 4th toes whenever I walked, this caused ankle pains because of the angle of my feet, as my toes were curled inward. Mr Malik explained the possibility of surgery to me (involving putting steel pins in my toes to straighten them) but warned it was not at all a fast recovery. I was in so much pain at the time I was willing to try anything. He was right: it was a long and slow recovery but 5 months on I am in considerably less pain and I’m so happy I went through with it. I’m glad Mr Malik was so thorough at explaining every step of the procedure and recovery to me. If you are considering this procedure don’t let the length of recovery put you off, it is worth it.
